Carrying the knowledge and skills set gained from a JM '81 degree, I worked for nearly 30 years in the field of print journalism, a very rewarding first career. This post is to recognize that mid-life career changes are possible, as I am entering my fourth year as a behavioral health professional.

My favorite employers have been the Los Angeles Times, Room & Board Home Furnishings and now, a third: Lutheran Services Florida. I work for LSF in Jacksonville, at its Substance Abuse & Mental Health Program Office contracted by the Department of Children & Families to improve and ensure quality of care for the state's most vulnerable. Looking back, it is the  same strong foundation I learned in journalism that has afforded me creative room to grow in the social services field -- that and going back to school at age 50. So for all my fellow Gators out there facing a mid-life "crisis," think of it as an opportunity!
