 Charles is a Regional Specialized Agent for water resources for the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF|IFAS) Extension. In his role he facilitates partnerships among urban and agricultural stakeholders, state agencies, water management districts and the public. Charles leads applied research and educational programs focused on water quality and quantity. His areas of expertise include irrigation scheduling, soil moisture sensors, agronomic and vegetable crop nutrient management, agricultural best management practices, building interagency relationships, and developing water resource education materials. The majority of Charles’ work is concentrated in the Suwannee River Basin, but he has extended his reach statewide with his soil moisture sensor network of agents and producers throughout Florida. Charles has secured over $9.2 million in funding for applied research aimed at advancing and promoting agricultural best management practices. His collaborative work with colleagues has led to major nutrient load reductions in the Suwannee River Basin and increased agricultural sustainability statewide.
