John Dicks is a partner at Akerman LLP, where he practices litigation, land use, and bankruptcy. As a litigator, John has experience in a wide variety of cases, including business litigation, contract disputes, fraud, fraudulent transfer, D&O litigation, real estate litigation, landlord / tenant disputes, judgment collection, employment, and banking disputes. He also has significant appellate experience. In the bankruptcy context, John has represented secured and unsecured creditors, court-appointed fiduciaries, and even a few debtors. He has negotiated favorable plan treatment for creditors, but also drafted and confirmed plans of liquidation and reorganization, for debtors and competing creditors. As a zoning and land use lawyer, John has experience representing applicants and objectors, in all manner of public hearings; and he recently led a team that successfully prosecuted a bid protest and appeal. Around the firm and the legal community, John is known as a professional, results-oriented, outside-the-box problem-solver.

In addition to practicing law, John has written and published two children’s books and a collection of poetry. John lives in Tampa with his wife (Lauren Davis, BA 2007), and their three daughters (June, 6; Joey, 4; and Juliette, 2). John is Chair of the statewide Ag Innovation Working Group, and the Vice Chair of the Florida State Fair Authority; he is active in his church and local bar association, and always willing to handle matters pro bono for local charitable organizations.
