Although Jonathan was born in Tallahassee, he quickly made up for this by moving to Gainesville as a young child and became a lifelong Gator, spending nearly 30 years of his life and earning three degrees while living in “The Swamp”. Under the tutelage of Dr. Michael Kane, he discovered the science and art of propagating plants via tissue culture. His studies in this field focused on refining tissue culture protocols to help provide restoration practitioners an effective method of propagating and bolstering sea oats populations along Florida's coastline affected by hurricane damage.

After graduating with his degree in Plant Science, he worked in the USDA laboratory located inside “The Land” Greenhouses at Disney’s EPCOT Center, creating tissue-cultured plantlets as souvenirs for visiting guests, as well as leading educational tours to hundreds of curious guests emphasizing the importance of long-term sustainability in domestic agriculture.
After his graduate school tenure at UF, he started his career at one of the largest plant tissue culture production labs in the world. Currently serving as Chief Operating Officer, he oversees the annual production of tens of millions of tiny plants that are shipped worldwide. He was recently selected to be a part of the inaugural class of the 2023 Horticulture Research Institute’s Leadership Academy and currently resides in Oregon with his wife, Natalie and two baby Gators, Max and Bella.
