BSPR '09 | Stuttgart, Germany
TITLE: Media Relations Chief
COMPANY: Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs
INDUSTRY: Government
Samantha has been a public servant and seasoned public affairs officer for more than a decade. Currently stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, she is responsible for conveying information about U.S. military assistance to the African continent and a variety of emerging issues to international media outlets. Her public affairs counsel was specifically recognized by AFRICOM and Pentagon leadership for the creation of the media rollout strategy surrounding the investigation from an October 2017 Niger ambush.
Prior to this post, she served at the Department of Veterans Affairs during the height of the disability claims backlog crisis. She developed and carried out communications strategies for the department’s transformative initiatives, as well as provided public affairs expertise and media preparation for VA leadership. Samantha was the youngest person hired at the Army’s Office of the Chief of Public Affairs headquarters at the Pentagon, when she was 23. As a strategic communications planner, she was selected by the Army Chief of Staff to develop and execute an Army-wide communications and outreach campaign “Telling the Army Story,” which still exists today.
Samantha is proud to be part of a military family. Her father served more than 25 years in the U.S. Air Force and her brother recently returned from his third Afghanistan deployment.
