After completing her dermatology residency at the Stanford University School of Medicine, Kathy Fields established a private practice and set out to create a preventative acne treatment. In 1995, Fields and Katie Rodan, MD, partnered together to develop Proactiv, now the world’s bestselling acne system. Seven years later, Fields and Rodan established a second skincare company, Rodan+Fields, which became the first prestige skincare line to exit the department store for the world of direct selling. Today, it has garnered more than 150,000 independent consultants.

In addition to creating skincare products and tools, Fields continues to maintain her private practice in San Francisco and is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of California-San Francisco, a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. She has co-authored two books with Rodan and has also published several articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. In 2015, Fields was included on Forbes’ first-ever “America’s Richest Self-Made Women.”
