Madlyn Hanes is the Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses and Executive Chancellor of Penn State, where she oversees the strategic intiatives and developments of the university’s 20 campuses. Her career at Penn State began in 1998 with her appointment as director of academic affairs at Penn State Delaware County, now Penn State Brandywine. Two years later, Hanes became the chancellor of Penn State Harrisburg, a role she served for 10 years.
A distinguished alumna, Hanes has numerous published works on research and clinical practice in speech and language disorders, teacher preparation and the teaching of reading. Hanes has served as a consultant to international ministries of education and boards of higher education in Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Israel and Korea, including a special appointment to the University Council of Jamaica by the Prime Minister.
In recognition of her many contributions to education, Hanes has received multiple honors and awards, including the 2015 Donna Shavlik Award for Advancing Women in Higher Education presented by the American Council on Education.
