Dr. Karen Berger is a neurocritical care clinical pharmacy manager at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical Center. She received her doctor of pharmacy from the University of Florida and went on to complete her PGY1 pharmacy residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and her PGY2 critical care residency at the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago, where she acted as chief resident. Dr. Berger currently serves as a Member-at-Large for the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology Section, member of the Neurocritical Care Society (NCS) Pharmacy Section Leadership Committee, Chair of the New York State Council of Health-system (NYSCHP) Pharmacists Grassroots Advocacy Committee and this year’s NYSCHP Annual Assembly Committee Chair. She has received the SCCM Presidential Citation for the past four years, the Neurocritical Care Society Presidential Citation for the past three years, and in 2016 received the NYSCHP New Practitioner Award.
In 2019, she became a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine which is a designation which honors practitioners who have made outstanding contributions in critical care and in 2020 she became a fellow of the American Society of Health-system Pharmacy which recognizes pharmacists who have excelled in pharmacy practice. Dr. Berger has provided >50 professional presentations at local, regional, and international meetings, presented >20 abstracts, and authored >30 publications, including 6 book chapters. Dr. Berger spent several months in 2020 taking care of critically ill COVID-19 patients in NYC and developing guidelines to optimize their management.
