Dr. Amy Alexander is a Clinical Associate Professor of Zoological Medicine at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. She graduated from UF with her Bachelor’s in Science in 2005 followed by her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. She then completed a small animal rotating internship at BluePearl Tampa, a zoological medicine internship at Colorado State University, and then a three-year residency at the Saint Louis Zoo. She worked as a clinical veterinarian at the San Francisco Zoo for two years before returning to UF as faculty in 2017.

Dr. Alexander is grateful to be able to teach and practice zoological medicine in the same service that she started out in as a volunteer in college. She considers it a privilege to work alongside mentors, colleagues, and trainees across all veterinary specialties to provide the best care for zoo animals, injured wildlife, and pet zoological companion animals. She is also passionate about contributing to the scientific literature on these animals, collaborating on research projects developing innovative clinical techniques, as well as evaluating the health of critically endangered species, such as lemurs in Madagascar and Andean cats in Argentina. Through these endeavors, she hopes to inspire future wildlife veterinarians and advocates.
