Jamie Lee Marks is an anthropologist and intergovernmental affairs strategist who helps federal agencies improve relationships and consultation with Native nations. As a Senior Analyst in the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation’s Office of Native American Affairs, she supports the agency’s efforts to advise the President and Congress on national historic preservation policy and provide technical expertise across federal agencies. Her work has advanced the ACHP’s participation in the White House Council on Native American Affairs, contributing to first-of-its-kind government-wide guidance for federal agencies to recognize and include Indigenous Knowledge in federal decision-making, and influencing government-wide Tribal consultation standards and community-led climate relocation pilot projects. Formerly, Jamie Lee was the Director of the Tribal and National Partnerships at the America250 Foundation, where she finalized a Tribal Engagement Plan for the 250th commemoration of the U.S. and launched an America250 Tribal Advisory Group. She joined the federal government as a Presidential Management Fellow in 2015, where her experience with Tribal federal acknowledgment research and ethnographic methods helped her teams advance research on the human face of Internet-enabled transit (FTA) and enhance Tribal consultation training (NPS). Between 2017-2020, Jamie Lee managed the national Tribal Historic Preservation Program (NPS), where she facilitated 32 new agreements between Tribal governments and the National Park Service, resulting in an additional 1.5 million dollars annually to new Tribal partners. A committed educator, Marks has taught research writing classes at the college level for more than a decade and provides ongoing career mentorship to students and recent graduates.
