TITLE:
Director of Ambulatory Pharmaceutical Services
COMPANY:
Emory University
INDUSTRY:
Health

Ryan has changed the way pharmacists provide care for patients in the ambulatory setting since joining Emory’s Pharmacy leadership. With his 100-plus-member team, he helped create a patient-centered model that enables pharmacists to provide care directly in clinic. This model also provides structured follow-up for patients throughout the continuum of their medication therapy. Since piloting this model in the complex disease states of hepatology and oncology, he has expanded it to work for patients with multiple sclerosis, gastroenterology and rheumatology. His team recently published research that shows the model’s ultimate goal: improved outcomes in patients.

In other areas, Ryan led Emory’s specialty pharmacy area to become the first such program in Georgia to receive accreditation from the Utilization Review Accreditation Committee. Carrying on his passion of training the next generation of caregivers, Ryan established one of the first PGY-1 specialty pharmacy residency programs in the nation and expanded the PGY-2 oncology residency program to better meet patient needs.

Ryan earned his pharmacy doctorate at UF in 2013 before completing two years of post-graduate residency training at The Ohio State University. He went on to serve in several clinical leadership roles at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta.
