Dr. Harsimran Baweja PT PhD, is a physical therapist by trade, a neurophysiologist by training, and a mad scientist by choice. The main effect of this unusual combination is pushing the boundaries of norms for academic curiosity. He is an Associate Professor of Physical Therapy at San Diego State University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. He directs the SDSU Neuromechanics and Neuroplasticity Laboratory. It is a state-of-the-art facility that uses immersive technology to simulate environments in which he and his team test human performance in urban mobility while measuring neurophysiological responses along with biomechanics.

Dr. Baweja is also the SDSU Instructional Technology Faculty Fellow for Immersive Learning and Artificial Intelligence. Through the Chancellor’s Office, he leads a California State University Systemwide endeavor on Immersive learning and artificial intelligence across 23 campuses. This initiative aims to support a community of faculty and technologists to help provide students with experiences and activities beyond the current scope of the physical classroom.

Baweja is an avid adventure motorcyclist. He has ridden solo motorcycle expeditions to the Arctic Ocean, Route 66, India and England clocking over 200k miles. He recently led a group to Sach Pass, one of the highest motorable passes in the world at over 14000 ft in the Indian Himalayas. In 1999, Baweja led the U-19 Junior Asian Olympiad and Southeast Asian Federation Squads for Crew Rowing representing India.

He currently lives in San Diego, California with his wife, Dr. Niyati Baweja, their 6-year-old daughter, Misha, and black labrador - Pepper.
